Short definitions for the acronyms and concepts that show up across the docs.
ADS-B
Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast. The radio protocol commercial and most general-aviation aircraft use to transmit position, altitude, and identity.
AIS
Automatic Identification System. The maritime equivalent of ADS-B — vessels broadcast position, course, speed, and identifying info.
ALPR
Automated License-Plate Reader. Cameras that capture and OCR plates. Surfaced here as a sensor-density map, not as a plate lookup.
ASN
Autonomous System Number. An identifier for a network operator on the public internet, used to attribute cyber traffic.
GDELT
Global Database of Events, Language, and Tone. A live, machine-coded feed of media events used as the conflict and news firehose.
ICAO24
A 24-bit hex address uniquely identifying an aircraft transponder. The canonical key the aviation pipeline merges on.
ORBAT
Order of Battle. The catalog of units and assets in a theatre — what's deployed, where, by whom.
SGP4
Simplified General Perturbations 4. The standard algorithm for propagating satellite positions from a TLE.
SSE
Server-Sent Events. A one-way streaming protocol over HTTP used to deliver aviation updates incrementally.
SWR
Stale-While-Revalidate. A caching pattern: return the cached response immediately, refresh in the background.
TLE
Two-Line Element set. The compact text format that encodes a satellite's orbital state at a given epoch.
